Unfortunately,  life-altering injuries resulting from severe traumas, such as car accidents, motorcycle accidents, or slip & falls are a fact of life. Our office provides comprehensive care for all types of injuries.

Whiplash also known as Cervical Acceleration-Deceleration (CAD) injury,  is common in many types of trauma. In the past, using ice and pain medications to treat whiplash was the recommended treatment, suggesting that it would heal on its own. Extensive peer-reviewed research has shown that there are countless additional problems that  result of whiplash injuries.

Spinal joints have a plethora of neurons that communicate directly with the brain. Mechanoreceptors communicate even the slightest bit of motion,  while proprioceptors tell the brain what your body’s position is in space. Any decrease in proper communication with the brain leads to improper motion of the spine; this may cause balance problems, vertigo, headaches, or may lead to further mechanical damage such as disc herniations.

A common myth of car accidents is that there are  “minor” crashes. A meta-analysis of thousands of car accident patients  demonstrated no correlation between speed of the accident, change in speed, damage to the vehicles, property damage and the amount of pain and/or MRI findings. In fact, peer-reviewed research studies demonstrated that low-speed impacts can cause more injury than higher speed impacts. This is due to the concept that higher speed impacts cause the car to absorb more of the forces of impact as the vehicle is designed to collapse. This collapse of the frame of the vehicle reduces your body’s acceleration and injury.

Science demonstrates whiplash causes a sequelae or myriad of problems. These can cause chronic problems in large percentage of those suffering from whiplash or CAD injuries. Obviously, it is certain that it  whiplash is NOT a “wait and see” problem! Patient outcomes improve the sooner they seek and receive proper treatment.
